Notes: Diner has been at this spot since the 1950s. It was once called the Thruway Diner, though I am not sure why. So few of these small diners exist today, and this place gives you the true feeling of a diner in the 1930s during lunch when the place is packed with people from all walks of life.Directions: On Washington, between Quail and Ontario, south side. Consult an online Map for exact location.Hours: Tu-F 5A-6P .. Sa-Su 5A-4P |
Notes: Diner appeared in the movie Ironweed, during which it received some refreshing. Jan and Cliff Brown, an engineer by trade, bought the diner a little bit after this and has had a successful run ever since. Notes: Used in Fodero advertisements. The diner acted as half diner half night club/eatery mattering on what time of day it was. It was just a great place housed within a diner. Hours: demolished

Notes: The best preserved Bixler known. Will someone save this diner? And does someone know its history?Directions: Exit 22 of I-87 and head south on

Notes: This diner, sitting in a plaza parking lot is your typical 1960s suburban diner. The googie (exaggerated lines/flairs) features do seem to have been softened.Directions: From Northway, head west on NY Rt 5. Or from I-890, exit at NY Rt 7 east and take NY Rt 5 east.Hours: 6a-10p
Notes: This diner started out at the site of the current Menands Diner. At this site, it was called the Broadway Diner. Colonie Historian related a story that there were disagreements involving the owners of the diner, and frequently, there would be broken windows.
The diner was moved to Wolf Rd. in eight sections in 1983. |
Notes: Diner was re-done in 1992Hours: Su-Th 6a-11p .. Fr-Sa 6a-2a |
Notes: A beacon to travelers west of Albany on US Rt 20. This Bixler has been covered over with stones for a long long time. The diner did survive a fire and has original stools and booths, wood, like they all used to be at one time. They serve good real diner food. Often a stop of mine when traveling I-88.Directions: Exit 24 of I-88. Go West into Duanesburg, at Intersection of US Rt 20 and NY Rt 7Hours: M-Sa 5:30A-8P Su 7A-8P
Notes: This diner once located at Jct of 9 & 20 in Castleton/Schodack, beckoned many a traveler headed to and from Albany via US Routes 9 and 20. If diners could tell stories, what stories would this one have to tell! Directions: Diner is located 2.5 miles east of I-88 on US Rt 20.Hours: closed |
